The Great American Road Trip
"The scale of America is its defining feature. You can drive for days and never see the same landscape twice."— Local Insight
The red rock landscapes of Arizona and Utah are unlike anywhere else on Earth. The Grand Canyon is the headliner, but Zion and Bryce Canyon offer more intimate hiking experiences.
The energy of NYC is undeniable. Beyond the tourist sights, explore the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens for diverse food and culture.
From the granite cliffs of Yosemite to the rugged coastline of Big Sur, the American West is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts.
The difference between a great trip and a disaster comes down to listening to locals, not brochures.
Overpriced, crowded, and mediocre food. Walk a few blocks to Hell's Kitchen for a real meal.
National Parks like Zion and Yosemite are gridlocked in July and August. Visit in shoulder season (May/Sept) for sanity.
Many hotels in tourist hubs (Vegas, NYC, Miami) add mandatory nightly fees. Read the fine print before booking.
18-20% is standard for service.
Travel insurance is mandatory.
Don't underestimate drive times.
Discover and book unforgettable experiences across the USA
Traveling in the USA is distinct from Europe or Asia. The infrastructure is built entirely around the automobile. Outside of a few major cities (NYC, DC, Chicago, SF), public transportation is often unreliable or nonexistent. Renting a car isn't a luxury; it's a necessity for most itineraries.
The sticker price is never the final price. Sales tax (0-10% depending on the state) is added at the register. At restaurants, you are expected to tip 18-20% on the pre-tax bill. In hotels, watch out for "Resort Fees" or "Destination Fees" which can add $30-50 per night and cover "amenities" like WiFi and gym access.
Violent crime in tourist areas is rare, but property crime (car break-ins) is common, especially in cities like San Francisco. Never leave anything visible in your car. The most significant risk to travelers, however, is financial: the US healthcare system is astronomically expensive. A simple ER visit can cost thousands of dollars. Do not visit without comprehensive travel insurance.
